Halloween Party & Some History

This Tuesday all sections will be having a party. You may wear your uniform or a costume. When I was young we learned to spell it with an apostrophe "Hallowe'en" . Here's a bit of history on the celebration:

Halloween & Christianity (from the History network)

By the 800s, the influence of Christianity had spread into Celtic lands. In the seventh century, Pope Boniface IV designated November 1 All Saints' Day, a time to honour saints and martyrs. It is widely believed today that the pope was attempting to replace the Celtic festival of the dead with a related, but church-sanctioned holiday. The celebration was also called All-hallows or All-Hallowmas (from Middle English Alholowmesse meaning All Saints' Day) and the night before it, the night of Samhain, began to be called All-hallows Eve and, eventually, Halloween. Even later, in A.D. 1000, the church would make November 2 All Souls' Day, a day to honour the dead. It was celebrated similarly to Samhain, with big bonfires, parades, and dressing up in costumes as saints, angels, and devils. Together, the three celebrations, the eve of All Saints', All Saints', and All Souls', were called Hallowmas.

YES! We CAN!

YES ! We CAN!

Purpose :

The YES! We CAN! Campaign has three purposes:

1. Make an environmental change by encouraging the recycling of pop cans.

2. Make people aware of 469th Agincourt Scouting.

3. Raise funds for 469th Agincourt Scouting programs.

Process: Individuals and businesses are encouraged to display the YES! We CAN! posters to show  they are participating in the YES! We CAN! program. The top contributors for each month will be profiled on our site, and a press release sent to the local papers.

When community participants have saved a number of pop cans, they should contact 469th Scouting by leaving a comment on our site, and a leader will get in contact with them delivery or pick up arrangements. Usually, we would prefer the cans be dropped off during our meeting time (Tues. 7-9 p.m.) at 160 Crow Trail, but since Scouts are out and about, it is best to make advance arrangements, as we may be right by your place and able to pick them up.

Promotional Posters: Flyers and posters have been developed and will be available on request as an email attachment. If you are unable to print the flyer, let us know and we'll be glad to drop one off to you. Please drop us a comment with your email address, name, phone number, and address of the location you plan to set up your YES! We CAN! bin.

 YES! We CAN!

We can all  make our world a better place!
